I played football in college and tried to stay physically active ever since.
I was working at a CrossFit-type gym, but found myself wanting to just get better at my lifting. For the longest time I had to lift all by myself and had a serious program-hopping problem. If the program was available online, even the paid ones, there is a good chance I tried it for a bit, but stuck with nothing for longer then a few weeks. I was not making any sort of progress. I was working very hard to just run in place.
About 2 years ago, I first came into Strength Ratio, and it was quite frankly a revelation. It was great to lift in a class setting after being solo for so long. So much easier to put in that hard work when you are surrounded by encouraging like-minded members.
But the best thing about Strength Ratio is the coaching/programming. At first I was admittedly frustrated. I don’t think I took the bar from the floor or allowed to squat with my shoes on for the first two months. Despite my initial frustrations, I trusted and listened to the coaches and let progressive overload do what it does: make me stronger than I ever thought possible.
Fast forward to last weekend when I competed at my third weightlifting meet and was able to hit a qualifying total for Master Nationals, which was my initial goal when I first started weightlifting at Strength Ratio. Waiting for the cookies never tasted so good!
