You can ask any of my coaches or teammates what I'm known for in competition and it is that I generally miss my opening snatch attempt. Snatch has, hands down, been my most consistent lift in training and the most technically sound by far, which makes that miss all the more frustrating. I have now missed four out of nine total opening snatch attempts in my two years as a competitive weightlifter...not a great track record.
Saturday was no exception and I missed my opening attempt at 66kg. I was disappointed, as I always am, because I knew it meant I wouldn't get as heavy of a third attempt as I wanted. That is why I was so surprised when my coach, Becca approached me after I made my second attempt at 66kg and said, "We're going for 70kg." I have never made more than a 3kg jump between snatch attempts at a meet and what's more, I have never attempted 70kg in competition. But Becca told me that weight with so much confidence, I've never been more sure that I would make a lift. Yes doubt did try to creep in at one point but I squashed it with Becca's steadfast mantra, "You can." And I did.
This meet was mentally my best competition to date, and a huge part of that is the confidence my Strength Ratio coaches and teammates have shown me.
